"Thought is not merely expressed in words; it comes into existence through them."
I think I somewhat disagree with this quote because although we think in a certain language, we can still have thoughts without words. When we picture a memory or when we imagine something. So thought is expressed in words but thought can also be expressed through gestures so I think it's wrong to say that thought comes into existence through words. I think that language has a big part to play in how we express thought. The quote touches on that when it says words, but language is more than words. It is also gestures and all body language.
On the other hand, saying that thought comes into existence through words in literature may be more valid because it's poetic. I think that only simple thoughts like: food, shelter etc. can come without language so to use imagery and compare things using similes and metaphors and such would be very difficult without words.

I agree, and feel that sound is a means of communicating but language isn't the only form of communication. You can express ideas in so many ways that to limit thoughts to words and languages cuts out a lot of other communicationg forms. Music makes a person feel something. A composer had a thought but does not express it through words, he chooses to use music. Yes singing is part of music, but the sounds made often make a significantly larger contribution to the communication aspect of things then the words themselves.A non music comparison is that through theatre, play wrights can express themselves through the words, or through words not spoken. Is that through the words, since they are unsaid and left hanging or the silence that ofter communicates bigger things to us than we realize. So just other forms to think about thoughts and how they are communicated.
